Between birth and two years old, your baby will develop at an extraordinary rate, and each of their advancements will be a new source of wonder for you. Discover with us the major milestones of their development and how to interact with them to help stimulate their awakening.
Exactly one year ago, your pregnancy began... The three-month mark is an important transition for your little one: they are no longer a newborn but a baby who is starting to open up to the world around them. Discover with us their astonishing progress, without worrying if they haven't yet reached all the indicated stages: even if there are certain benchmarks, each child develops at their own pace!
Their weight and height
Your baby is growing at an incredible speed: on average, at 3 months, little boys weigh 5.8 kg for 60 cm, and little girls 5.3 kg for 59 cm.
Their gross motor skills
Your baby can now hold their head upright when you pick them up, but it still tends to fall back after a few moments. If you lay them on their stomach, they lift their head and push up on their forearms for a short period. On their back, they extend and flex their legs alternately: they love kicking in the air!
Their fine motor skills
Involuntary at birth, your baby's movements and gestures become more precise and controlled. At rest, their hands are no longer clenched but almost open: fascinated by their movements, they spend a lot of time contemplating them. If you offer them a toy, they are able to grasp it then let go after a few moments. They start trying to grab the abacus or the small toys hanging from the arch of their bouncer or stroller.
Their awakening
Very sociable, your baby smiles at everyone and accepts being held even by those they don't know. However, their preference is clearly for the people they live with daily: their dad, mom, siblings, their nanny... They show their joy when they see you arrive and follow you with their gaze as you move around them. They begin to take an interest in the world around them and greatly enjoy walks in a baby carrier or stroller.
Your baby communicates more and more: from 2 months, cooing appears. Giggles, coos, throat noises, vocalizations, and little cries of joy... They play with the capabilities of their larynx, and their adorable babbling is simply irresistible!
Their sleep
During the day, your baby now has long periods of wakefulness, and their naps are starting to become more regular. At night, their sleep also stabilizes: at 3 months, many babies sleep 6 to 8 hours straight, and so we can consider that they sleep through the night... even if they may seem very short to you!
However, if your child still wakes up once or several times a night, don't worry: there's nothing abnormal about it. You can continue to feed them at night: this will reassure them without delaying the arrival of long, uninterrupted nights of sleep.
